Derek McCoy, MD is board-certified in family medicine by the ABFM. He is also board certified in Emergency Medicine by the ABPS. His medical degree was completed at the AUC School of Medicine. His internship in family medicine was then completed at LSU-HSC New Orleans at Lake Charles. Due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, he relocated and completed his residency in Savannah, Georgia at Memorial Health University Medical Center. While at Memorial Health University Medical Center, he served as the chief resident for the department of family medicine. He was also named resident of the year for Mercer University’s Savannah Campus. His fellowship in Sports Medicine was completed at Thomas Jefferson University. Prior to medical school he completed his MS at Georgia Southern University, focusing on vector biology and virus transmission. His undergraduate degree was completed at Northern Illinois University
where he received his BS in biology. He and his family are residents of Harford County.
